Mothers Aren’t Women?

Family Research Council recently exposed a United Nations effort

… to undermine the foundations of society—the natural family, religious freedom, the sanctity of human life, and the legal and social structures that protect them.

To that list of values under attack add the dignity of women. In the guise of feminism this effort attacks not only the family but, in a kind of macabre irony, femininity itself, certainly as conceived by its original designer, who created humankind “in his own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them” (Genesis 1:27).

FRC is referencing CEDAW, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women.

But never mind the name. This is one committee that does discriminate, especially against women. … CEDAW lobbies for everything from overturning pro-life laws to banning Mother’s Day and forcing women into combat.

The popular concept of “feminist” comprises a redefinition as profound as that of the term “gay.” The original feminists, as Darrow Miller expounds in Nurturing the Nations: Reclaiming the Dignity of Women in Building Healthy Cultures, affirmed “the dignity of women and their unique functions of homemaking, succoring, and mothering … .” Susan B. Anthony was a prominent example, who “stood against slavery, against abortion, and for women’s suffrage.”

Among other provisions, CEDAW calls for nations to

  • De-emphasize the role of mothers (women who nurture families),
  • Remove prohibitions on prostitution (legitimizing the abuse of women), and
  • Give “demand right” status to abortion (notwithstanding the indisputable fact that the overwhelming “choice” of abortion decisions, especially in societies like China and India, are girls (see Gendercide: The War on Baby Girls.)

Followers of Jesus Christ are called to affirm His creation decrees and resist evil designs against all people: male and female, young and old, born and unborn.
